WOW! I think I just picked the perfect time in my life to see this movie. This film has so much more than just the average a run-of-the-mill sports movie, trust me. "Fast" Eddie Felson easily belongs up there with the great, low-life, down and out anti-heroes like Brando from 'On the Waterfront', Voight in 'Midnight cowboy' or even Stallone's 'Rocky'. Paul Newman, George C. Scott and (surprisingly) Jackie Gleason (wtf?) all deliver incredibly vibrant, compelling and yet deeply human performances (minus 1/2 star because of Piper Laurie's histrionic acting skills).
